Adventure With A Purpose.
Mark is a foot to the floor type of person! Whatever he does, he likes to do fast and with as much energy as he can muster, whether that is his next adventure or helping people overseas who are struggling with poverty.
Mark is co-founder of Rally4Life, and his goal is to raise awareness for the Charity and it’s goals through his adrenaline seeking adventurous activities.
Growing up rock climbing and kayaking Mark moved to Canada in 1988 and learned to enjoy back country skiing, dog sledding, ice climbing and white water rafting. However in 2005 he re-discovered an earlier passion for rally car driving, and he created his own successful team. This evolved into the creation of his adventure advocacy and Rally4Life, to give his pursuits purpose.
Mark is currently attempting to raise awareness by challenging himself to compete in some of the world’s most grueling races and by attempting to set significant world records. As driver for Bowler Offroad team he will be joining them in their next attempt at the Dakar Rally.
He also hopes to race a motorbike in the Dakar with his Bowler co-driver and fellow advocate, Mick Extance, who is Britain’s top Dakar bike rider, and quite the inspiration.
He recently led a team flying paramotors on the longest expedition anyone has ever completed in Australia, flying over 8215km. While Mark suffered logisitical problems on the flight, the team were successful in completing the endeavour and secured a new Guinness World Record.
Mark’s training regime to keep fit includes Mountain Adventure Races, off-road triathlons and he is thinking of competing in an endurance marathon in Guatemala next year if anyone would like to join him.
His upcoming adventures include a 100km Ultramarathon in Guatemala, a climb and paragliding flight of Kilimanjaro, a SUP around Okanagan Lake, an entry into the Dakar on both a motorbike and in a car, a swim around Okanagan Lake and an 800km run from Kenya to Sudan. While it leaves many of us breathless, it does inspire the media to write the story of people in need around the world and we are excited that Mark continues to push his personal limits to tell an important story.
