Steph Jeavons - one remarkable woman, one big journey
Steph has been around bikes most of her life with both parents and one of her two sisters riding as well. Her grandmother even rode bikes during the war! I think you can safely say it’s in the blood. Now she is embarking upon a solo overland Motorcycle journey around the world and raising money for Rally4Life. Click here to follow her blog “I’m certainly no expert and I don’t confess to being a demon on two wheels. In fact I am a bit of a potterer really. This adventure isn’t about speed. It’s not really even about the bike. It’s about living, learning and enjoying! Doing this trip solo on a bike just opens up all the senses and allows me to be part of my environment. Leaving on the 27th March 2014 Steph will leave her home in North Wales and attempt to circumnavigate the globe visiting at least 42 countries and hitting at least 6 continents. Steph aims to do this in 15 months to 2 years avoiding all motorways and main roads and living mainly in her two man tent with only the things she can carry on her bike. Steph’s current budget for the entire trip is just £10,000. This presents a challenge in itself allowing her just £5 a day to spend on food that she will have to cook in her one pot! “I hope to learn a few one-pot recipes on my travels. It will certainly force me to improve on my cooking skills and make good use of very few ingredients. I will have to be creative in all aspects of this journey to make the money stretch. I am relying on the kindness of strangers to give me the odd night in a comfy bed with a warm shower and a nice meal if I’m honest!” Steph will become the second woman in the UK to make this solo journey. Elspeth Beard did it 30 years ago with no mobile phones and Internet to keep her it touch with her loved ones back home! We salute you Elspeth! Steph – being slightly on the competitive side – would love to become the first Brit to include all 7 continents. This has only ever been achieved by 4 other people in the world (that we know of). Sadly though, making it to the Antarctic is looking like a step too far for her budget. “The Antarctic would require another £6,000 minimum as it is extremely costly to get there and with only £10,000 to play with and no big sponsor, it would take a miracle!” Stranger things have happened! Who knows what is around the corner for Steph and her trusty Honda but one thing’s for sure, it’s going to be one hell of a ride! My route will be all back roads and dirt tracks wherever possible. "I fully intend on keeping away from the motorways and enjoying seeing the world at a civilized pace. So often we rush through life, busy planning our future and not enjoying the now. Here the journey takes over and the destination is really not important!"
